Employees Really Do Want It!

Finally, a study with some definitive data that supports the importance of performance feedback and coaching and, demonstrates evidence that employees really do want it!  A Newsline article published by WorldatWork on October 9, 2009 refers to the Leadership IQ study. The study shows that “67% of employees say they get too little positive feedback and 51% also say they get too little constructive criticism from their boss.” Other survey results demonstrate that when employees do get feedback, the feedback is not useful enough to repeat positive or, correct negative performance.   www.worldatwork.org

Assuring leadership/manager effectiveness, measuring leaders on the degree to which they are engaging in employee feedback and linking outcomes to consequences and rewards is essential.  This is the best time to re-position the employment exchangeand continue the journey away from entitlement and toward accountability for results.

When the economy starts to up-tick and employees are on the move, those organizations that have built a culture of performance measurement, feedback and coaching will be more likely to retain high performers than those that have not. Effective performance management is a key competitive advantage in this challenging economic environment, and will continue to play a significant role in building employee engagement in the future.
